woodside community center
WOODSIDE, NY
Client:
Private
The client had acquired a one-story, 10,000 SF commercial building in Woodside, Queens, with the intention of transforming it into a vibrant Temple and Community Center. This project aims to preserve and promote the cultural heritage and ancient traditions of the Lo people from Mustang, Nepal, by creating a space that serves both spiritual and communal functions. The project includes a full gut renovation of the existing structure, removing all interior partitions to accommodate a new layout. The redesigned first floor will feature an entry hall, a community room with a raised platform for gatherings and events, a kitchen and bar, multiple storage areas, toilet facilities, and mechanical and electrical rooms.
The newly constructed upper level will include a temple room for worship, several classrooms, administrative offices, a secondary kitchen, and additional restrooms.
The mechanical systems will undergo a complete overhaul, supporting both energy efficiency and long-term sustainability goals. The proposed building envelope for the one-story existing building alteration and the addition will comply with the 2020 NYC Energy Conservation Code.
Construction is currently underway with project completion anticipated in 2026.
