This project consists of a new two-story addition to the historic 1948 two-story Neo-Georgian style, brick and cast stone school building located in Rego Park, Queens. The addition is the same height and massing as the existing building as it was important to preserve the established massing.
The main entrance to the school is relocated to the addition providing accessibility to the existing school. New Kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms provide 428 seats. A new student dining room and kitchen are located in the basement which opens to a landscaped courtyard.
The exterior was designed to be compatible with historic exterior of the existing school, which is SHPO eligible. Insulated precast concrete panels with applied brick were utilized to keep within the budget, allow for efficiency for the construction schedule while also maintaining the historic brick and stone facade.
