In the Bathgate section of the Bronx, the Bathgate Educational Campus was once an abandoned warehouse set in a lackluster industrial park.  The NYC School Construction Authority leased the warehouse from the Port Authority of NY & NJ with the intention of housing three schools in one building.  Each school required its own entrance to dedicated classrooms, however, all three schools were to share a cafeteria, library and multi-purpose room as well as music and art classrooms.

Three brightly colored feature walls soar above the entrance to each school, carving through the shared lobby, climbing up separate glass enclosed stairwells with each arriving at a sky-lit court surrounded by classrooms.  On the interior, the intense color of these walls influences the floor materials to define a clear circulation path from the entry to the center of each school.  Abundant natural light from the sloping skylights create cheerful common areas for students to congregate between classes.

On the lower level, the three high schools are linked along an undulating linear corridor to their shared facilities.  Like a lively urban street, store front entrances beckon students from the separate schools.  The street culminates at the lobby of the main assembly space.
